Late Phases (Werewolf Transformation)

I'm honored to have received this video from the great werewolf connoisseur Herpscott. It's the transformation scene from the recent film Late Phases. After years of over-reliance on CGI, it's a delight to see filmmakers rediscover the power of practical effects. Like Wolf Cop, the transformation scene is the skin-ripping type, which isn't my favorite, but no one can deny that it isn't well-done and gripping. Thanks again Scott!

Growing Pains--Available for Viewing!

Growing Pains is a Danish short film about a teenaged boy who turns into a werewolf whenever he gets sexually aroused (you can see the trailer here). I discussed it a while back, and now I can report that it's available for rental, at this page.

The rental price is low ($3.40), and the film is more than worth it. Actually it's terrific--the first non-disappointing werewolf movie in years. It's even better than expected, and has three transformation scenes! The first alone is worth the price of rental, and the movie is funny, unsettling, kinky, and has something valuable to say about the harm of sexual repression and the need to release one's inner beast.

Werewolves have often been seen as metaphors for out-of-control sexual urges, puberty, and even erections (in transformation scenes the body grows like a monstrous penis). Many werewolf films have tried to make use of those metaphors--Growing Pains is the first to successfully employ all of them.

This is an independent movie and needs all the support it can get. I highly recommend renting Growing Pains.

Marbels Chocolate (Werewolf Transformation)

Below is a TV commercial from Indonesia, advertising Marbels Chocolate. It parodies classic werewolf iconography, features a cute actor, and uses a combination of make-up, body-suits, and CGI (for muzzle growth). I wish we had commercials like this in America. The only sour note is the boy giving the werewolf chocolate--doesn't he know that's toxic to dogs?

Werewolf version from Gunnar Nimpuno on Vimeo.

Garo: The Animation (Werewolf Transformation)

Episode 7 of this anime aired last month--it shows the main character dreaming that he's become a werewolf. The transformation is very quick, but there's some nice muzzle-growth and the werewolf design is goofy/cute.

Zoo (Vulture, rat, sabretooth tiger, tyrannosaurus rex transformations)

Zoo is a short online manga containing a smorgasbord of transformations. Since I can't read Japanese, I can't tell you the name of the author or what's going on, but the art looks very similar to that of Naruto.
The two male protagonists drink potions that turn them into various animals--though many of the transformations are off-panel, three or four have been spread across a few panels. Read Zoo here.

In case you need reading instructions, start by clicking the arrow in the pop-up sign. This will take you the main page. From there, turn the pages by clicking the arrow at the bottom of the screen (the arrow faces right).
Oh, and if anyone knows if Zoo has any other chapters, please tell me!

Life (Age Progression)

 (Originally found at Visible Time.)
Life is a short film by Audrey Schebat; it shows a baby progressing to adolescence, adulthood, old age and death within a single shot. Though made in 2001, the morphing between the different models still works, though I think the childhood section is the smoothest and best (perhaps because the child actors look more alike).

Special Delivery (Horse Transformation)

Readers of this blog are undoubtedly familiar with Mamabliss and her excellent transformation comics. Horses are one of her specialties, and in "Special Delivery" we see a young man go from horny to...horsy. Read it here.

Guess who's back?

I have returned! Below are 13 fresh updates. I apologize for my longer-than-planned absence. I was on vacation for most of August and when I returned, it took a while to get back into my usual routine. The idea of updating the blog started seeming like work and I kept putting it off until too much time had passed. I even toyed with quitting altogether. But now all is well, and I'm gunning for one million views. Thanks to everyone who wrote in with suggestions for updates. If I didn't get around to including your selections this time, I'll try to do so in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy, and let me know if any links or videos don't work.

Sleepy Hollow (Wendigo Transformation)

This was a nice Halloween surprise. In episode 6 of second two ("And the Abyss Gazes Back") we're treated to a transforming wendigo, courtesy of a combination of make-up, a monster suit, and excellent CGI. The CGI works especially well because it serves as a bridge between two real figures, the human actor and the monster suit, resulting in a very convincing monster. (Are you taking notes Teen Wolf?)
After the transformation come two reversion scenes--the first quick and seen via reflection, the second longer. They're also notable because the actor who plays the wendigo is quite easy on the eyes, since he transforms back without any clothes on...

Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors (Spider Transformation)

A scene from episode 7 of the third season, when Spider-Man travels to the Savage Land and gets infected by a poison that transforms him into a man-spider (hence the episode title "The Savage Spider-Man"):

This isn't the first time Spider-Man became a man-spider (the idea seems like a natural one). It happened in the comics around 10 years ago (I'll post scans in a future update) and in the Spider-Man cartoon from the 1990s. Here's the transformation, along with the reversion, which is more detailed. The 90s show has a better man-spider design, but the new show has a better transformation.

Wolfcop (Werewolf Transformation)

It's not easy being a werewolf fan, because most werewolf movies suck. More are being made now than ever before, but most still suck. Three werewolf films released in the past few months--Wer, Wolves, and Werewolf Rising--were all crap, with no decent transformations. (Wolves was an especially big waste, given the quality of the fur-suits and the yummy Lucas Til).

The only decent, recent werewolf film is Wolfcop, a campy Canadian horror-comedy. It's good trashy fun, and though the transformations are the skin-ripping kind, they don't rely on excessive gore (unlike Hemlock Grove) and they exploit the comedic possibilities of the genre. For example, Wolfcop features the first penis transformation scene in werewolf film history! Perhaps it'll encourage future filmmakers to show more transforming wolf-junk...

Anyway, for this clip I've combined the two major transformation scenes. The first is short and has the infamous penis scene; the second is longer and more detailed.

Teen Wolf (Werewolf Transformation)

In the past Teen Wolf was a disappointment in terms of transformations, but remained extremely watchable, thanks to vivid characters, breathlessly-paced plotting, creatively scary visuals, and often underrated writing. But the recent fourth season has unquestionably been the show's worst. Much of the blame lies with MTV, which gave the staff only six weeks to prepare the season (other shows enjoy 18 to 26 weeks). The result is a set of episodes that wasted most of their time on an inconsequential mystery whose solution was an unguessable fraud.

But an even bigger problem is how show now handles werewolves. It's not interested in them. Teen Wolf treats lycanthropy as just another superpower. When it repeatedly uses a line like "You're not a monster, you're a werewolf," it makes werewolves boring and safe. And having the new werewolf learn to stop his full-moon transformation by reciting a Buddhist platitude makes this show's version of lycanthropy even more boring.

That said, there was one moment of TF interest, in the penultimate episode (#10). During a fight with an assassin, Scott begins losing control and his face transforms a third of the way into that of the Alpha Werewolf last seen in season one. There's also a reversion, and it's more noticeable than the transformation:

At first I thought this scene would foreshadow Scott completely transforming in the finale, but that didn't happen (instead there was a lot of absurdly pointless, dramatically inert crap involving berserkers in Mexico) . I now think this scene was an experiment by the special effects team to add variety to the monotonous look of the show's werewolves, especially since Jeff Davis has said the season one Alpha Werewolf form won't be coming back (he doesn't like working with large CGI creations and doesn't have the budget for them). I have a suggestion for Mr. Davis: Hire the folks who handled the transformation scenes in the British version of Being Human. The producer used them because he couldn't afford CGI, and they created the best werewolf transformations on television. It's not too late for Teen Wolf to redeem itself, provided it starts treating werewolves a little more like monsters

The Art of Meesh (Horse Transformations)

Readers of this blog know that I rarely plug other people's products. But I'm happy to make an exception for "An American Werehorse," a superb transformation comic that can be purchased here. The artist is named Meesh, and though he doesn't have a large backlog of TF artwork, he's already produced some of the finest (and sexiest) transformation art I've seen--his work looks wonderfully professional. If you don't believe me, take a look at his free comic "A Transformation Tale," which shows how Meesh can turn a man into a stallion. Just be warned, it's NSFW and gives literal meaning to the phrase "hung like a horse."

A Transformation Tale:
01 / 02 / 03 / 04 / 05 / 06 / 07 / 08 / 09 / 10 / 11 / 12 / 13

Fine as "Tale" is, "American Werehorse" is even better, and Meesh has generously provided a preview of half the pages. (01 /  02 / 03 / 04 / 05 ). The second half is even better than the first and can be purchased for $6. That not only includes high resolution pages, but also many behind-the-scenes extras.
Even good transformation artists can have problems with pacing a long comic. By "pacing" I refer to the process of having multiple body parts gradually transform over the space of multiple pages. "American Werehorse" shows exquisite control of pacing--I don't think you'll find a better horse transformation on the web. The transformation community is always in need of good artists, so let's do our best to support them.

Hell Teacher Nube (Werewolf Transformation)

This horror-comedy manga dates from the mid-90s. The second chapter of Vol. 14 is titled "The Proud Werewolf" and tells the story of a wild boy (raised by wolves?) who learns to accept his inner lycanthrope. The scans are in the original Japanese.

We start out with the boy being visited by Nube and a friend, who reveals the full moon, cuing a quick transformation and reversion:

Later on, they visit the boy during another full moon. This time some sort of wolf spirit appears to the boy and initiates his transformation.

Here's a shot of him running off in wolf form. He looks a bit like Lycanthrope Leo...

Werewolf Video Round-Up!

In the months since I last updated, I've found several werewolf transformations videos floating around the web...

Creature Feature: I'm guessing the artist is an animation student. If so, I'm glad he chose this subject for his assignment. There are good close-ups of the hand and face transforming--I wish there was some clothes-ripping too, but I guess that's too time-consuming and difficult with solo computer animation.

Wolves: William Wei is a Taiwanese rock star--last spring he released a song called "Wolves," whose music video shows him turning into a werewolf. The transformation starts off well with some very smooth CGI, but ends way too early. His final form looks too much like a Teen Wolf version of a werewolf--a face mask with fake ears and teeth.

Werewolf Spotlight: this is rather unusual--a silhouette transformation. Normally I wouldn't feature that sort of thing, but I liked the level of detail, along with the sound effects.

Friends: a short about relationships gone monstrously wrong...
There are actually two transformations in the video, both fluidly rendered via the sketchy art style.

Full Moon: I'm cheating by including this last video (when you see the end you'll understand why), but it's cute and funny, and well-drawn.

Art Roundup 2 (Various Transformations)

Here are several items found around the web...

* First, a page from an Italian comic featuring a werewolf transformation.

* And here's another Italian comic with transforming werewolves (or as they say in Italian, licantropi).

* Our friend Externica recently informed us that the artist NKEN  has a Pixiv gallery containing several pictures not found on NKEN's furaffinity gallery. This artist is quite fond of transgender transformations and many are male-to-female, which don't concern us, but several others involve girls transforming into very well-muscled and well-endowed beastmen. Definitely not safe for work!

* Having earlier praised the transformation art of Crinitus, I just want to add that he's finished another superb werewolf morph. The alternate version is also good!

* This webcomic also includes a lycanthrope. It's only nine pages so long, so I've linked to the first page. Look out for the unusual rape van!

Wildcats (Monster/Age Progression Transformation)

This tacky cartoon was based on an equally tacky 90s comic (you can tell by the ridiculous outfits). In episode 7, one of the heroes--a green monster guy--has a dream/flashback about transforming into his present form. The muscle growth seems to imply age progression too.

Perkawinan Nyi Blorong (Crocodile Transformation)

Thanks to Marc for suggesting this...unusual scene. All I know about Perkawinan Nyi Blorong is that it's an Indonesian film from 1983 and certifiably insane. Here we see a chunky dude eat several eggs, causing him to roll around the floor and experience what looks like a male pregnancy before ripping off his pants to reveal a yellow diaper. Then, after further overacting, he turns into a crocodile via charmingly awkward practical effects. Though working with a third-world budget, the filmmakers tried to imitate Rick Baker's style, and they demonstrate that budget practical effects are always more fun than budget CGI.

The video cuts off before his final form can be seen, but you can continue onward here

Nilba e os Desastronautas (Werewolf Transformation)

First, I have to apologize for the terrible visual quality of this clip--it's the only copy I could find (you try hunting obscure down Brazilian cartoons!). Anyway, in episode 31 of this cheaply animated show, Nilba, the main character, transforms into a mischievous little werewolf. I've combined the transformation and reversion scenes.

Jekyll and Hyde Ultimate Transformation

Many thanks to the anonymous commenter who alerted me to this excellent video of Dr. Jekyll transforming into Mr. Hyde. Apparently created for a video game, the computer animation is quite well-rendered (I want to thank the storyboard artist who lavished attention on the growth of Jekyll's limbs). Technically this version of Hyde is more Hulk-like and monstrous than Stevenson's original, but I ain't complaining!

The Bookworm Turns (Age Progression)

Our friend Caleb suggested featuring this classic MGM cartoon from 1940, which features Dr. Jekyll switching the brains of Poe's raven and a literal bookworm. He compensates by making the bookworm grow into a giant brute. Unfortunately the only video online is a German dub (the original starred Mel Blanc), but we'll take what we can get, since this is a cartoon transformations from animation's golden age.

Saturday, August 2, 2014

Hello Gang,

I'm happy to announce that I've updated the blog with five videos, all featured below. Tomorrow I'm going on vacation and will be gone for most of August, so I hope this update will tide you over (if not, just remember that Dutchbull has recently updated too).

Son of Batman (Bat Transformation)

Once upon a time DC released some of the best superhero cartoons ever made (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, etc.). Now the focus is on making direct-to-video animated films, and they're not as good. Son of Batman is overall mediocre, but it does have a subplot about members of the League of Assassins being turned into man-bats. Here's a scene of one of them reverting to human form, along with a slow-motion replay.

Blue Exorcist (Demon Transformation)

The first two episodes of this anime include a bully who gets possessed by a demon and undergoes a two-stage transformation, as seen in this edited compilation (two stage-one TFs, a stage-two, and a reversion). The video is in Japanese language with Spanish subtitles, but it's not like you were watching this for the plot...

My Little Pony (Dragon Transformation and Age Progression)

Oddly enough, no ponies are involved in this transformation, taken from episode 36 ("The Secret of My Excess"). Instead we get a dragon named Spike. He's a child-sized and cutesy, until he starts getting greedy and undergoes what can only be described as monstrous dragon puberty, complete with gigantic growth spurts, a deeper voice, and increased aggression. This lengthy clip has been awkwardly assembled from various bits of the episode. Sadly, the final stage of the transformation occurs off-screen.

Dan Vs. (Bear Transformation)

Did you know all Canadians are half-bear? Dan's friend Chris is living proof! If you don't believe me, take a look at this clip from episode six, "Dan Vs. Canada."

Packages From Planet X (Monster Transformation)

Episode 18A of this obscure cartoon is called "Big Dan on Campus" and involves the skinny protagonist acquiring bracelets that siphon electricity to give Dan increased size, strength, body hair, and all-around manliness. Soon he gets too manly!
Unfortunately, I was only able to get a Polish dub of the episode. Also, since he transforms throughout most of the episode, I had to edit together parts of various scenes. That said, enjoy the masculinity overload!

Shin-Chan (Tanuki Transformation)

Known as Crayon Shin-Chan in America, this anime about a mischievous little boy has been on the air for over 20 years and new episodes are still being made. Episode 784 features a unique werecreature, along with an amusing parody of a classic werewolf transformation. I only have access to a Spanish dub of the episode (titled "Hay un hombre lobo en Kasukabe").

As a completely unrelated bonus, here's a soccer football short to mark the World Cup. What a shame America got eliminated--too bad the only werewolf at the cup was Suarez!

Monsterpedia (Werewolf Transformation)

Monsterpedia is series of animated webvideos, and this entry is called "How To Be a Werewolf in 3 Easy Steps." It really is that easy.

Alien Spike (Werewolf Transformation)

This anime-style webcomic features a werewolf character named Jack, who begins transforming here.

The Order 1886 (Monster Transformation)

Here's something rare--a post involving video games. As you might guess, I'm not a gamer and I haven't come across much that's caught my eye. But this game has a relatively well rendered and timed transformation scene, involving a monster that looks like a cross between a zombie and werewolf.

Scan2Go (Werewolf Transformation)

I honestly have no idea what this anime is about (pokemon with remote control cars?) but one of the characters is a werewolf-type thing and transforms in episode 39.

The video should be cued, but if it isn't the TF starts at the 17:58 mark.

Growing Pains (Werewolf Transformation)

Here's an exciting work-in-progress. Growing Pains is a Danish animated short about a teenaged boy who turns into a werewolf whenever he gets horny. Being a teenager in love, this happens quite often! The short isn't finished yet, but the teaser looks like heaven for transformation fans:

The werewolf-as-puberty metaphor is frequently mentioned, but very few films, aside from Ginger Snaps, have really explored the idea. John Landis (director of An American Werewolf in London) has also suggested that the werewolf transformation is an erection metaphor, and Growing Pains seems to agree.

We hope Growing Pains will be a great success. To keep tabs on the production, go to its website.

Black Blood Brothers and Blood Lad (Werewolf Transformations)

Here's are two transformations from anime I otherwise know nothing about:

The youtube account they're on is named "Lycan Volkodlak Werewolf," and it's entirely devoted to werewolf transformation videos, though most of the material will already be familiar to my readers. (I'm amused to note that several of the videos are taken from material I "discovered" on this blog. But I don't mind--it's not like I owned the material in the first place.) My only quibble with Lycan Volkodlak is that he stripped the original sound from both videos. For the original sound from "Black Blood Brothers," go to this video, which features inferior visual quality. That account is also devoted to werewolves by the way. Perhaps all of us should team up and form a pack...

Ben-10: Omniverse (Ape and Werewolf Transformations)

The interminable Ben-10 franchise featured two brief transformations during a recent episode titled "An American Benwolf in London."

Here's the Benwolf transformation. Many will recognize the creature as an updated form of the original Benwolf, from the first Ben-10 series. That show featured a three part transformation which started promisingly but fizzled out, since parts two and three used off-screen transformations.

The Omniverse episode also features a villain turning into a big purple ape-man, seen here. The muscle growth causing his armor to fly off is a nice touch, but I'm sick of that trick where the transforming character covers his face so the animators don't have to draw it.

Art Roundup (Ape and Various Transformations)

Two recent art finds, both NSFW.

A while back we reported on the transformation artwork of Navetsea. That artist has completed a new transformation sequence involving devolution, one of my favorite themes. An amorous couple start making out, only to get devolved into dumb, horny cavepeople. The sequence is available at the site "Hentai Foundry," and you might have to register in order to see it. The images are located within this gallery.

Our friend Externica recently informed us of a large gallery of transformation pictures (labeled 猪竹の) on Pixiv, a Japanese image-hosting site. A couple of things you should know: the artist does not have a good scanner, and his work is rather sketchy, though it does have vitality and a great love of transformation. Also, since it's adult-themed, you'll need to register with Pixiv to see the gallery (Externica reports that Pixiv might give some email addresses trouble). Lastly, many of the pictures are sequences loaded into one file, and you have to keep scrolling to load the next few images. But  it's worth it--many of the pictures involve demon and werewolf transformations, and there are also some involving leopards, kappa, bulls, dragons, and even plants. See them here.

Robot Chicken (Werewolf Transformation)

Here's a short skit from the stop-motion animation show Robot Chicken, called "Werewolf Problems." The transformation mostly involves clothes-bursting and hair-growth, and there's a humorous climax.

The Werewolf In the Living Room (Werewolf Transformation)

Since my last text-based post was well-received, here's another book for your consideration.
The Werewolf In the Living Room is part of R.L. Stein's popular Goosebumps series of children's horror books (it's actually part of the Goosebumps 2000 series, but who cares?).

Contrary to what the cover suggests, there are no scenes of werewolves sitting around the living room with their paws on the ottoman. Sorry feet fetishists!

The protagonist is Aaron, who describes himself as "tall and skinny" with "curly red hair, freckles, and light green eyes." Aaron is the son of a werewolf hunter, so of course he gets turned into a werewolf and hunted down by Dad.

Here's the first transformation scene:
I sat on my bed--stared out the window--and waited.
I watched the sun slowly set.
As dusk turned to night, I saw the full moon rise in the sky--and felt my skin begin to tingle. Then burn.
I gazed in the mirror--and saw dark fur sprout over my skin.
My back and chest began to throb. I could see the muscles pulsating, straining against my T-shirt. Then a searing pain shot through my body as my bulging muscles tore through my clothes.
I squeezed my eyes shut as the bones in my face shifted. Formed into a skill that was half human, half beast.
I let out a howl of agony as fangs exploded from my gums.
Then a fiery pain shot through my hands and feet. I gazed at them in horror as my fingers and toes shrank. As my hands and feet formed into paws. As razor-sharp claws sprang from my scalding skin.
I burned with fever.
Burned with hunger.
With an ugly roar, I grabbed the rope around my waist and tore it away.
With the fury of a wild animal, I ripped the planks from my bedroom door.
And then I was running.
Running out of the house.
Running on all fours through the cool night air.
Running--with a raging, bloodthirsty hunger--in search of fresh meat!
There's another transformation towards the end, though it's shorter and more clumsily written. Here's an edited version:
As Ashlee searched the house, I began to feel my skin tingle.
I can't let Ashlee see me change! I told myself.
..."Hurry, Ashlee! Hurry!" I shouted, unable to hide my panic.
My skin began to burn.
My head began to ache...
"You'd better hurry home." I sprung out of the cage.
I could feel the fur begin to sprout on my back...
My muscles began to pound...
I glanced down--and saw dark, bristly hair begin to sprout from my hands.
...Don't turn back, Ashlee, I silently begged.
Please--go out the door. Don't turn around.
Please--don't see what I've become.
...A sharp pain shot through my skull as my head turned half human, half creature.
... A searing pain shot through my mouth as my fangs slipped out. I howled in agony.
The transformation was complete.
I was a total wolf-creature now.

Furry Force (Various Transformations)

The popular College Humor site has branched into animation--its latest effort is Furry Force, a sort of Captain Planet/Superfriends parody where the heroes are teens...who transform into ludicrously endowed furries. The transformation content is slight (there's some muscle growth at the 16 second mark in part two), but the videos are hilarious (the writers clearly did their research!). I'm not a furry, but I think most folks in that community will find these videos more funny than offensive.

Unexpected Hiatus

My plan of updating more often was jinxed by Windows, which started crashing a month ago. While I can still browse the internet, editing video clips and images has become a hassle. I will probably have to re-install Windows and reformat my hard drive. Luckily, I've already back up my files, and with luck should have the computer fixed later this week.
In the meantime, take a look at Shadowlord and Dutchbull's sites, both of which have been recently updated (Dutchbull actually updated twice, on April 8 and May 1).

P.S. In case anyone's interested in the computer problem...

"A Donkey Tail" by Mamabliss (Donkey Transformation)

(As promised, I am switching gears--instead of waiting a long time to make a massive update, I will be making smaller updates more often.)

Mamabliss is one of this site's frequent artists, thanks to her prolific output and sensuous, funky style. She recently presented her blog readers with another lengthy, not-safe-for-work transformation comic--"A Donkey Tail." It's the story of two young asses who fulfill their true natures...
And if that wasn't great enough, Mamabliss is working on "A Donkey Tail: Part Two"!

Fashion King (Werewolf Transformation)

Fashion King (패션왕) is a Korean webcomic. Though set in the fashion world, it apparently has a wacky sense of humor--in one story the fashion-model hero turns into a werewolf. The transformation occurs across two chapters. It starts here--you have scroll way down to get to it. Fortunately for us, the transformation is revisited at the start of the next chapter, seen here. The artist makes sure to use all the classic, tried-and-true transformation tropes in his parody, bless 'im. Apparently Fashion King is going to be made into a live-action movie--I hope they include the werewolf parts!

Vampires (Werewolf, werecat, bear, bat, eagle, and gorilla transformations)

Don't be fooled by the title--this classic manga is really about animal shapeshifters.
Osamu Tezuka (1928-89) is sometimes known as the Walt Disney of Japan, though it terms of sheer creativity he is easily Disney's superior. Vampires (1966-67) is one of his lesser-known works and stars a young werewolf named Toppei. Western mythology was still relatively new to Japan, so Tezuka called his werewolves--and anyone else who could turn into an animal--vampires. And in the West vampires and werewolves were not always regarded as separate creatures either.

Anyway, this manga is a motherlode of transformations, so let's begin with Volume 01.
Remember to read from right to left! Here Toppei reverts from werewolf to human:

Here's a quick werewolf transformation:

Now we have another reversion scene, with Toppei lying in the back of a car:

For whatever reason, Toppei's reversions tend to be better than his transformations:

However, since I know many people prefer transformations, here you go:

Now we move on to Volume 02.  Here's a two page werewolf reversion:

Swiftly followed by another werewolf TF:

Now we get people changing into other animals. Here is a "vampire":

Here is a dying bear reverting to human form:

This page doesn't have a transformation sequence, but it shows some characters amusingly depicted in an awkward half-animal/half-human state:

Tezuka even throws in a guy who can turn into a tiger!

Now we arrive at Volume 03 and get another werewolf TF from Toppei, who transforms while falling from a building. The panels and their arrangement demonstrate why Tezuka is a master:

Yet more new shapeshifters--here's a dude who turns into an eagle!

Even with all the other animals, we still get nice werewolf TFs like this:

Behold, a gorilla newscaster!

More of Toppei getting wolfy:

Now we arrive at Volume 04, the last one. Werecats are given more attention here. Below is a catboy versus a tiger:

Another cat, this tuime reverting to human form:

I think this dude is a cat man too:

Here a werecat reverts and tries to escape from the villain:

Remember Toppei? Here's his last hurrah, a classic transformation under the full moon:

Lastly, we conclude with a werecat attacking a painter:

I lied--that's not all! Vampires was adapted into a live-action TV series in 1968. So, you ask, how did they pull off the werewolf transformations? Through a mixture of live action and animation! This has rarely been done for transformations, and you can see why in the following clip--the process is interesting, but the end result doesn't really work in live action. Disappointingly, the show reused this scene for all of Toppei's transformations, with only minor adjustments. So while Vampires the manga is a smorgasbord of transformations, Vampires the show is a bust.

Army of Darkness (Werewolf Transformations)

This comic was inspired by the cult film of the same title, starring antihero Ash Williams. In Volume 1, issue 10, Ash gets scratched by a werewolf and starts itching...

Luckily a cure is devised...

In volume 3, issue 20, Ash runs into another werewolf. This one reverts to human form, much to Ash's discomfort:

The werewolf appears in several more issues. Here are two pages from issue 25 that show him transforming and reverting:

Twin Dolls: Legend of the Heavenly Beasts 2 (Monster Transformation)

Here's a quick monster transformation from a silly-looking old anime. Oh, and I didn't notice until now, but this monster has a rather large you-know-what. He also has dreadlocks and a unicorn horn, but I'm not sure why...

Outre Tombe (Werewolf Transformation)

Outre Tombe is a French comic. As you might guess from the title of the second volume (Loup y es-tu?), werewolves show up. Take a look at the guy staring at the moon in the top panels and watch him change...

Demonic Sex (Demon, Dog, Werewolf, and Pig Transformations)

Before we go any further, a warning--these links are NOT safe for work!

Demonic Sex is a remarkable adult comic that ran for only nine issues. Billed as a series of "Satanic Tales of Transformation and Possession," it was a fetishist's dream, a literal orgy of transformations. The links below take you to complete issues, but you can easily pick out the most exciting pages.

It all starts with a nice all-American boy accidentally hooking up with the devil and being corrupted and sent to hell, where he starts feeling a bit devilish...there's a second demon TF in the next issue, but it's minor.

In issue three we get back on track and witness a man being transformed into a demonic urine receptacle, followed by an S&M "dog" turning into a real hound.
Skipping forward a few issues, the fun resumes in issue 07 with another demon transformation, a werewolf metamorphosis, and two policemen who are genuine pigs.

Issue 08 features a dude turning into a horsey demon (followed by some extreme docking), while the literally shitty final issue goes out with a gangbang of four pig transformations! Alas, the comic seems to end there, with the protagonists stuck head-first up another pig's asshole. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Twink Wolf (Werewolf Transformations)

This link is definitely NSFW!
Twink Wolf is, of course, an X-rated parody of Teen Wolf. The artist does a good job of capturing the look of  the show it parodies--when the werewolves in Teen Wolf transform they don't look very wolfy (they're more like vampires with sideburns)...

And now a rant about Teen Wolf: Back in its first season, the show's alpha werewolf looked like an honest-to-God werewolf, but after that we've only seen the boring, vampire-like beta design. Producer Jeff Davis says this is because of cost and because the actors are more recognizable with the more limited make-up. But a fully-transformed werewolf is a monster that shouldn't look human in the first place.
That's my main beef with Teen Wolf--it no longer seems interested in werewolves, not as beasts or monsters anyway. Instead, lycanthropy is just a superpower and often overshadowed by the lizardmen, kitsunes, druids and freaks. Even so, Teen Wolf is still the best supernaturally-themed show on television, and the writing is better than ever. I just wish that a show about werewolves would accentuate wolf as much as  were.

Finals (Monster Transformation)

Finals was a Vertigo comic miniseries from 1999. It's a satire of college life, including the obsessive focus on sports. The first issue opens with a jock bragging that monkey gland injections will make his team into super-strong athletes. He doesn't know how correct he is...

How come sports were never like thus at my college? I'd have watched every game...

The Transformation Art of Crinitus (Werewolf and Gorilla Transformations)

I normally wait until an artist has a full gallery before I feature him on this blog, but I'll make an exception for Crinitus, who has created three of the finest morphs I've seen from an amateur transformation artist. His characters are finely detailed yet morph with exquisite fluidity.
The three morphs are:
* a werewolf
* a reverting werewolf
* a gorilla (and I have to agree with Crinitus--there just aren't enough ape transformations out there!)
* a wereraven

Salomão Ventura – O Caçador de Lendas (Werewolf Transformation)

Apparently a werewolf appears in issue three of this Brazilian indie comic. I wasn't able to acquire the actual comic (it's offered through the artist's facebook page), but the online preview includes a page with a well-drawn transformation, seen below:

Trivia: in Brazil and Portugal, the word for werewolf is lobisomem.

Dunc's Halloween (Werewolf Transformation)

I thought I'd try a little experiment and post a werewolf transformation from a book. Not a comic book or a book with pictures--just words. This is somewhat unusual, since up to now I've only featured pictures and videos.

I decided to make a random selection from my collection of werewolf books and ended up with Dunc's Halloween, a children's book published back in 1992. The cover (which I don't particularly like, aside from the werewolf's face) is below:

The premise: Dunc and Amos are doing some pre-Halloween errands when Amos gets bitten on the butt by a strange dog. The day after, he starts eating raw meat, sleeping on the floor, climbing the stairs on all fours, and chasing cats. Yes, Amos is changing...into a werepuppy. On the night of the full moon, Amos wears a lamb costume to the school's Halloween dance (to lure the werewolf that bit him)--and then the fun starts:

Back in the shadows, some very strange things were happening to Amos.
The moon had come up over the gym, and as they had walked to the door, Amos had come into the silver-blue light.
The changes came slowly at first, almost not there at all.
He crouched a little. Then a little more. And then his ears and nose grew a little. Then a little more. And hair grew on his hands and neck and face. Then a little more. And all of this happened and kept happening until it wasn't Amos standing in the doorway next to Dunc. It wasn't really not Amos, but it wasn't really him, either.
The crouch continued until it was just more comfortable for Amos to be down on all fours, while his growing nose made it easier for him to growl and pant than to talk. It all seemed so natural, and it happened one-thing-to-another until Amos wasn't much like Amos any longer. He looked less and less like Amos and more and more like a kind of rangy cross between a coyote and a dog pound stray...
Dunc turned. "Amos?"
But Amos was gone. He had dropped back into the darkness, flipped his feet to get the tennis shoes off his paws, and set off at a lope, the lamb costume trailing along behind.

Well-written and skillfully understated. If you guys don't mind an occasional text post, a few will show up now and then, though my primary focus will remain on videos and images. Let me know what you think.

The Strangers (Werewolf Transformation)

Well, the update is finally finished! Sorry it took so long. From now on I will be trying for shorter but more frequent updates. Moving on...

The Strangers (2012) is a pretty good Filipino horror film involving the aswang, a monster native to Filipino folklore. However, since these aswangs are of the "black dog" variety, I'm going to treat them as werewolves.
The following clip was crudely edited together from three different scenes in the movie. The character transforms, then transforms further, then gets into a fight with an aswang hunter. Despite their low budget, the filmmakers decided to rely as much on prosthetics as CGI, and the special effects turned out very well.

Dance in the Vampire Bund (Werewolf Transformations)

I'm not even going to bother trying to describe the premise of this risque anime. All I'll say is that it features a vampire queen whose bodyguard is a werewolf named Akira. He's shown transforming in episodes 7,9, and 11. I've edited together all three of those transformations in the video below. The first scene is especially interesting for the way the transformation spreads across his body, starting at the foot and bursting the seams of every article of clothing on the way to his chest:

As a bonus, here's a slow-motion video of the first transformation:

As a further bonus, here are some scans from the manga the show was based on. As you can see, the anime closely followed the original. These scans from Vol.2 correspond to episode 7:

These scans from Vol.3 correspond to episode 9:

These scans from Vol.4 correspond to episode 11:

And now a final bonus--a vampire bat transformation from Vol.2:
