The Idhun Chronicles (Werewolf Transformation and Reversion)

Welcome to the winter update! Make yourself warm by cuddling up to all the werewolves and other beasties we've gathered for you. We hope you enjoy all 14 new items.

Here is a clip from season 2, episode 2 of the Spanish-made anime The Idhun Chronicles. Prince Aslan, who contracted lycanthropy the last season, is chained up before he transforms into a werewolf. But the chains don't hold, so his comrade must hold off Aslan until he returns to normal:

Since we see his face change only during during the reversion (and that happens very quickly), we've included a screengrab of the process:

Metamorphose (Rabbit Monster and Werewolf Transformations)

Metamorphose is an anthology of short comics drawn in the late 1970s by Osamu Tezuka, the "Godfather of Manga." The fifth story is called "Woobit" and involves werewolves...and a rabbit.

A quick summary: after a werewolf gets killed, the demon that caused its lycanthropy infects a rabbit, so every full moon it becomes a wolfish monster ("wererabbit" would be incorrect, since "were" means "man").

Let's start with the rabbit's owner witnessing its transformation. Remember to read right-to-left!

The rabbit-wolf escapes into the wild and is tracked down by its owner. He's joined by a werewolf hunter who turns out to be a werewolf:

The owner and hunter finally track down the monster bunny. Witness their final battle:

Re:Zero (Tiger Transformation)

In Season 2, episode 15, Garfiel transforms into a tiger-man but bites off more than he can chew:

Should anything happen to this clip, here's an alternate link

In the next episode, Garfiel is bloody but unbowed after his battle and transforms again to face Subaru, another antagonist. Thanks to a risky use of magic and a crystal, Subaru forces Garfiel to revert to human form.

Carthago Adventures (Werewolf Transformation)

These scans are from an English translation of the fifth volume (titled "Amarok") of a French comic.

A group of indigenous Canadians are gathered round a fire when a werewolf enters, bringing news of a crime committed by some white men in the building. The Natives transform into werewolves to punish the criminals.

Onyx Equinox (Jaguar Transformation)

Our thanks to Arenson for suggesting a scene from episode 11 of this Mexican-American cartoon, which is based on Mesoamerican mythology. A male character is turned into what looks like a supernatural jaguar:

(Scroll to 04:19 if the cue doesn't work.)

Julia & Démons d'Armoises (Werewolf Transformations)

Here are two short transformations found in European comics, the first from Italy, the second France. There's also a bonus at the end of the post.

A dream sequence from issue 252 of Julia

A reversion from volume 2 of Démons d'Armoises:

Bonus: We have received notice of a Spanish language werewolf comic named Lobizón which can be read here!

Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (Werewolf Transformations)

In "Billy & Mandy Moon the Moon" (episode 8 of season 6), aliens are taking over the Earth by making the moon permanently full. This turns them into werewolves who will kill everyone and replace the population. Oh, Billy gets turned into a werewolf, too:

This isn't the first time Grim Adventures featured a werewolf. If you haven't seen it, make sure to watch the excellent transformation scene from "Tween Wolf". It was featured on this blog 10 (!) years ago.

Migrador Nocturno (Eagle & Insect Monster Transformations)

I'm not sure what exactly is going on in this trippy Argentinean graphic novel. I think the story involves people who can turn into weird-looking eagles.

Here's an early transformation:

And a longer one involving the male protagonist:

He meets up with a lady who has the same talent, and they find themselves turning into birds mid-air:

Toward the end they make love, merge into each other, and turn into a freaky insectoid monster...

Lukas (Werewolf Transformations)

Here are two scenes from volume 7 of an Italian comic. In the first, two werewolf transform in order to fight each other:

The victor goes on to fight an entire gang of werewolves at the end:

Dampyr (Werewolf Transformation)

Issue 248 of this Italian comic brings us a gray-haired lycanthrope:

Later on a character reads a book on werewolves that contains an illustration of transformation:

Ned (the Anger Issues Guy) (Muscle Growth)

An audio comedy series by Kashy about a shy beta male anthropomorphic deer in his mid 20s, who has the worst luck in dealing with day-to-day issues. He makes them worse by losing his temper and hulking into a beast. Here is the first episode:

In episode 2 Ned deals with a hapless therapist:

Episode 3 involves a day at the gym:

Oh, and there's also a Valentine's Day special:

Unreal Engine (Werewolf Transformation)

Our thanks to Noodles on our Discord Channel for recommending this clip from a game engine:

Magico Vento (Werewolf Transformation)

From volume 2 of an Italian comic--the hero fights and defeats a Native American werewolf:

President Werewolf (Werewolf Transformation)

The President of the United States is infected with lycanthropy and experiences his first transformation. He manages to keep his tie on:
