The Wayfinders (Bear Transformation)

Thanks to Classymike and Noodles on our Discord server for recommending this scene from first episode of a new show. A group of highschoolers wanderes into a dangerous fantasy world but escape capture thanks to a friendly werebear:

Note: If you have any trouble with the video, here's an alternate source. The TF starts around 41:55.

Fangs & Fury (Werewolf Transformation)

Chinese werewolf movies are rare (previous examples can be seen here and here), and now we see one more, Fangs & Fury (狼战). The onscreen transformation is only partial, but perhaps the film reflects growing interest in werewolves among the Chinese, a trend we wholeheartedly encourage.

The Orville (Arachnid/Alien Transformation)

Thanks to MrTF for finding this scene from The Orville (season 3, episode 2). A member of the spaceship crew gets ambushed by an "arachnid," a spider-like alien, and transforms into one:

Yôkai ningen Bem (Monster Transformation)

Thanks to Ian Ricky for assembling this supercut of TF scenes from the TV series and movie 妖怪人間ベム (Yokai Ningen Bem). Bem (Kazuya Kamenashi) is a yokai who transforms into a monster whenever he feels strong emotion.

The Breach (Monster Transformation)

Thanks to Ian Ricky for providing this film clip, which should appeal to skin-ripping and gore fans. Local examiner Jacob Redgrave (Wesley French) steps into the mysterious portal and after he comes out begins mutating into something hideous...

Ultraseven (Ape Transformation)

Thanks to the anonymous commenter who recommended this video, of episode 44 from the old Japanese TV series broadcast in 1968. The transformation is done in the classic Wolfman style, via dissolves:

La Espera (Pig/Boar Transformation)

My thanks to Tinob and Classymike on our Discord server for finding this scene from the Spanish film La Espera (2023). It's a dream sequence showing a partial transformation, but includes what I think is the most important part of a transformation scene. You can guess what it is from the clip...

Marerittet, The Club, Death Metal & Unveiling (Demon Transformations)

My thanks to Ian Ricky for finding and uploading these four demonic clips.

The first is from the Norwegian movie Marerittet (2022). A young woman has nightmares involving a sleep paralysis demon that looks like her boyfriend:

Next, another demon boyfriend, from The Club (1994):

The third clip is from Death Metal (2023). A metal band creates a demonic song that releases a curse; the lead singer (Nico Zahniser) gets possessed and turns into a demon:

The final clip is from the Filpino film Unveiling: The Horse Demon (2019), wherein a man discovers he's descended from a tikbalang (a horse demon from Filipino folklore):

Hellhounds (Werewolf Transformation)

Welcome to the spring update! We sat out the winter because it was a terrible one for finding TF content. And even if we had made a few small updates, they wouldn't have been very exciting. So thank you for your patience and we hope you enjoy the 27 new items. Thanks as always to everyone who gave us tips and suggestions.

Back when I started this blog in 2010, werewolves were extremely popular in movies and TV, thanks to the after-effects of Twilight. How things have changed! They've mostly disappeared from TV (computer-animated cartoons usually steer clear of TF scenes). And when a werewolf movie appears it's either going for the novelty value of a female werewolf or it's one of those worthless zero-budget indies.

Hellhounds is definitely in the low-budget category and the morphing effects are from of the 1990s, but the latter raise it slightly above its bargain basement competition (and the lead is easy on the eyes).

This clip was cut together from many different scenes, so apologies for the choppy transitions (Avidemux only allows me to cut on key frames). First we see the young protagonist transform, then we get a second TF scene; then our hero encounters an older werewolf and they both transform; finally, the younger werewolf reverts and the older one transforms again.

There's Something About Movies (Werewolf Transformations)

Our thanks to "Fatwerewolf" for suggesting this video on our Discord server. There's Something About Movies is a British comedy panel show. In the first episode of season four, two panelists recreate the famous transformation scene from An American Werewolf in London. They do a decent job, which raises a question...

If it's possible to achieve such effects on a British panel show, why do so many higher-budget American programs fail at werewolf transformations? Perhaps in the UK practical effects are cheaper than CGI.

GARO (Monster Transformations & Muscle Growth)

Our thanks to Ian Ricky for providing these clips from Japanese TV.

From episode 9 of GARO: Gold Storm Sho, here is a monster possession scene:

And an insectoid-monster possession from episode 9 of GARO: Makai no Hana:

Transylvania Rising (Werewolf Transformation)

Welcome to our fall update! 15 new posts await you. The majority are by Kumaguma, so please thank him for keeping this blog alive. Thanks as always to everyone for their suggestions, and apologies if we haven't gotten around to any of yours yet. We're hoping that Halloween will bring more material, so fingers crossed for a November update. In the meantime, enjoy this one!

Thanks to Meaninglez for discovering this video and recommending it on our Discord channel.

Transylvania Rising is an unaired pilot from 2016. Set in 1880, it's about "a young woman in search of her missing father travels to Transylvania, where she teams up with a wrongfully disgraced Scotland Yard Detective and together they witness the births of the most famous monsters and villains in history."

The wolfman is of course involved, and he transforms at a masked ball:

There's a reversion scene at 38:35:

Office Depot (Age Progression)

Our thanks to the anonymous commenter who recommended this Mexican commercial. Can our readers south of the border tell us if this actually happens whenever kids visit Home Depot?

"War for the Planet of the Apes" Promo (Ape Transformation)

Thanks to an anonymous reader for recommending this promotional clip made for War of the Planet Apes, which shows Andy Serkis's face transforming into a chimpanzee's:

Bhediya, Carnival Row VFX Breakdown & Bonus (Werewolf Transformation)

Some random werewolf items and housekeeping...

We covered the Indian werewolf film Bhediya last year, but now it's out on HD video, rather than sub-optimal bootlegs. Our friend Dutchbull will undoubtedly upload ultra HD videos next month, but in the meantime here's a 720p copy of the film. Scroll to 59:20 for the first transformation and 01:25:57 for the even better second TF:

The TV show Carnival Row ended earlier this year. We've covered scenes from the first and second seasons, and Dutchbull has more scenes from the final episodes, including a werewolf transformation and reversion and a monster TF.

The following video is a VFX breakdown of the second season scene we had covered, and shows how sophisticated the digital effects were:

Carnival Row S2 - VFX Breakdown by Goodbye Kansas from Goodbye Kansas Studios on Vimeo.

Before I get to the bonus, I want to mention that the videos and links in the 2018 Werewolf Round Up have been repaired.

And now the bonus: "Ben 10 Kevin werewolf transformation" by TransformAnimations:

Petrang Kabayo at Ang Pilyang Kuting (Horse Transformation)

We wish to thank Renviurry Fresdrite for recommending this strange Filipino comedy about a man who must complete three heroic tasks to lift a curse placed upon him by the goddess of horses:

Moonchild & Autumn Moon (Werewolf Transformations)

Ian Ricky has provided these clips from a pair of independent werewolf films. Keep in mind that both are low-budget productions.

Moonchild (1994):

Autumn Moon (2023):

Warehouse, and Uncle Toby's & Voltaren commercials (Muscle Growth)

Thanks to Ian Ricky for providing these muscle growth clips. First, a commercial for Voltaren Emulgel (Mexico, 2002):

Next, a commercial for Uncle Toby's Crunchy Muesli Bars (Australia, 2003)

Finally, a scene from the sci-fi TV series Warehouse (Season 2, Episode 7), where muscle growth is swiftly followed by spontaneous combustion:

Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 (Zombie Transformation)

Welcome to our first update of 2023! (Better late than never.) Thanks again to everyone who suggested and contributed material, including anyone whose requests we haven't got to yet. The blog has also passed a milestone---we've made more than a thousand posts! Will we make it to two thousand? Will the world end before then? The only way to find out is to keep reading! On with the update, which has 21 new posts waiting for you...

This Polish horror film features a cute young policeman who gets tongued by a female zombie and turned into her hideous monster mate. My thanks to Noodles on our Discord channel for recommending the film. The clip is edited together from several scenes.

Carnival Row (Werewolf Transformation)

Thanks to Noodles on our Discord server for this find. In season 2, episode 4, Darius transforms while being chased under a full moon by faeries:
