The Bookworm Turns (Age Progression)

Our friend Caleb suggested featuring this classic MGM cartoon from 1940, which features Dr. Jekyll switching the brains of Poe's raven and a literal bookworm. He compensates by making the bookworm grow into a giant brute. Unfortunately the only video online is a German dub (the original starred Mel Blanc), but we'll take what we can get, since this is a cartoon transformations from animation's golden age.

I'm happy to announce that I've updated the blog with five videos, all featured below. Tomorrow I'm going on vacation and will be gone for most of August, so I hope this update will tide you over (if not, just remember that Dutchbull has recently updated too).

Son of Batman (Bat Transformation)

Once upon a time DC released some of the best superhero cartoons ever made (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, etc.). Now the focus is on making direct-to-video animated films, and they're not as good. Son of Batman is overall mediocre, but it does have a subplot about members of the League of Assassins being turned into man-bats. Here's a scene of one of them reverting to human form, along with a slow-motion replay.

Blue Exorcist (Demon Transformation)

The first two episodes of this anime include a bully who gets possessed by a demon and undergoes a two-stage transformation, as seen in this edited compilation (two stage-one TFs, a stage-two, and a reversion). The video is in Japanese language with Spanish subtitles, but it's not like you were watching this for the plot...

Oddly enough, no ponies are involved in this transformation, taken from episode 36 ("The Secret of My Excess"). Instead we get a dragon named Spike. He's a child-sized and cutesy, until he starts getting greedy and undergoes what can only be described as monstrous dragon puberty, complete with gigantic growth spurts, a deeper voice, and increased aggression. This lengthy clip has been awkwardly assembled from various bits of the episode. Sadly, the final stage of the transformation occurs off-screen.

Dan Vs. (Bear Transformation)

Did you know all Canadians are half-bear? Dan's friend Chris is living proof! If you don't believe me, take a look at this clip from episode six, "Dan Vs. Canada."

Packages From Planet X (Monster Transformation)

Episode 18A of this obscure cartoon is called "Big Dan on Campus" and involves the skinny protagonist acquiring bracelets that siphon electricity to give Dan increased size, strength, body hair, and all-around manliness. Soon he gets too manly!

Unfortunately, I was only able to get a Polish dub of the episode. Also, since he transforms throughout most of the episode, I had to edit together parts of various scenes. That said, enjoy the masculinity overload!

Shin-Chan (Tanuki Transformation)

Known as Crayon Shin-Chan in America, this anime about a mischievous little boy has been on the air for over 20 years and new episodes are still being made. Episode 784 features a unique werecreature, along with an amusing parody of a classic werewolf transformation. I only have access to a Spanish dub of the episode (titled "Hay un hombre lobo en Kasukabe").


As a completely unrelated bonus, here's a soccer football short to mark the World Cup. What a shame America got eliminated--too bad the only werewolf at the cup was Suarez!

Monsterpedia (Werewolf Transformation)

Monsterpedia is series of animated webvideos, and this entry is called "How To Be a Werewolf in 3 Easy Steps." It really is that easy.

This anime-style webcomic features a werewolf character named Jack, who begins transforming here.

The Order 1886 (Monster Transformation)

Here's something rare--a post involving video games. As you might guess, I'm not a gamer and I haven't come across much that's caught my eye. But this game has a relatively well rendered and timed transformation scene, involving a monster that looks like a cross between a zombie and werewolf.

Scan2Go (Werewolf Transformation)

I honestly have no idea what this anime is about (pokemon with remote control cars?) but one of the characters is a werewolf-type thing and transforms in episode 39.

Growing Pains (Werewolf Transformation)

Here's an exciting work-in-progress. Growing Pains is a Danish animated short about a teenaged boy who turns into a werewolf whenever he gets horny. Being a teenager in love, this happens quite often! The short isn't finished yet, but the teaser looks like heaven for transformation fans:



The werewolf-as-puberty metaphor is frequently mentioned, but very few films, aside from Ginger Snaps, have really explored the idea. John Landis (director of An American Werewolf in London) has also suggested that the werewolf transformation is an erection metaphor, and Growing Pains seems to agree.

Black Blood Brothers and Blood Lad (Werewolf Transformations)

Here's are two transformations from anime I otherwise know nothing about:




The youtube account they're on is named "Lycan Volkodlak Werewolf," and it's entirely devoted to werewolf transformation videos, though most of the material will already be familiar to my readers. (I'm amused to note that several of the videos are taken from material I "discovered" on this blog. But I don't mind--it's not like I owned the material in the first place.) My only quibble with Lycan Volkodlak is that he stripped the original sound from both videos. For the original sound from "Black Blood Brothers," go to this video, which features inferior visual quality. That account is also devoted to werewolves by the way. Perhaps all of us should team up and form a pack...

Ben-10: Omniverse (Ape and Werewolf Transformations)

The interminable Ben-10 franchise featured two brief transformations during a recent episode titled "An American Benwolf in London."

Here's the Benwolf transformation. Many will recognize the creature as an updated form of the original Benwolf, from the first Ben-10 series. That show featured a three part transformation which started promisingly but fizzled out, since parts two and three used off-screen transformations.

The Omniverse episode also features a villain turning into a big purple ape-man, seen here. The muscle growth causing his armor to fly off is a nice touch, but I'm sick of that trick where the transforming character covers his face so the animators don't have to draw it.

Art Roundup (Ape and Various Transformations)

Two recent art finds, both NSFW.

A while back we reported on the transformation artwork of Navetsea. That artist has completed a new transformation sequence involving devolution, one of my favorite themes. An amorous couple start making out, only to get devolved into dumb, horny cavepeople. The sequence is available at the site "Hentai Foundry," and you might have to register in order to see it. The images are located within this gallery.

Our friend Externica recently informed us of a large gallery of transformation pictures (labeled 猪竹の) on Pixiv, a Japanese image-hosting site. A couple of things you should know: the artist does not have a good scanner, and his work is rather sketchy, though it does have vitality and a great love of transformation. Also, since it's adult-themed, you'll need to register with Pixiv to see the gallery (Externica reports that Pixiv might give some email addresses trouble). Lastly, many of the pictures are sequences loaded into one file, and you have to keep scrolling to load the next few images. But  it's worth it--many of the pictures involve demon and werewolf transformations, and there are also some involving leopards, kappa, bulls, dragons, and even plants. See them here.

Robot Chicken (Werewolf Transformation)

Here's a short skit from the stop-motion animation show Robot Chicken, called "Werewolf Problems." The transformation mostly involves clothes-bursting and hair-growth, and there's a humorous climax.

The Werewolf In the Living Room (Werewolf Transformation)

 Since my last text-based post was well-received, here's another book for your consideration.
The Werewolf In the Living Room is part of R.L. Stein's popular Goosebumps series of children's horror books (it's actually part of the Goosebumps 2000 series, but who cares?).

Contrary to what the cover suggests, there are no scenes of werewolves sitting around the living room with their paws on the ottoman. Sorry feet fetishists!

The protagonist is Aaron, who describes himself as "tall and skinny" with "curly red hair, freckles, and light green eyes." Aaron is the son of a werewolf hunter, so of course he gets turned into a werewolf and hunted down by Dad.

Here's the first transformation scene:

I sat on my bed--stared out the window--and waited.
I watched the sun slowly set.
As dusk turned to night, I saw the full moon rise in the sky--and felt my skin begin to tingle. Then burn.
I gazed in the mirror--and saw dark fur sprout over my skin.
My back and chest began to throb. I could see the muscles pulsating, straining against my T-shirt. Then a searing pain shot through my body as my bulging muscles tore through my clothes.
I squeezed my eyes shut as the bones in my face shifted. Formed into a skill that was half human, half beast.
I let out a howl of agony as fangs exploded from my gums.
Then a fiery pain shot through my hands and feet. I gazed at them in horror as my fingers and toes shrank. As my hands and feet formed into paws. As razor-sharp claws sprang from my scalding skin.
I burned with fever.
Burned with hunger.
With an ugly roar, I grabbed the rope around my waist and tore it away.
With the fury of a wild animal, I ripped the planks from my bedroom door.
And then I was running.
Running out of the house.
Running on all fours through the cool night air.
Running--with a raging, bloodthirsty hunger--in search of fresh meat!

There's another transformation towards the end, though it's shorter and more clumsily written. Here's an edited version:

As Ashlee searched the house, I began to feel my skin tingle.
I can't let Ashlee see me change! I told myself.
..."Hurry, Ashlee! Hurry!" I shouted, unable to hide my panic.
My skin began to burn.
My head began to ache...
"You'd better hurry home." I sprung out of the cage.
I could feel the fur begin to sprout on my back...
My muscles began to pound...
I glanced down--and saw dark, bristly hair begin to sprout from my hands.
...Don't turn back, Ashlee, I silently begged.
Please--go out the door. Don't turn around.
Please--don't see what I've become.
...A sharp pain shot through my skull as my head turned half human, half creature.
... A searing pain shot through my mouth as my fangs slipped out. I howled in agony.
The transformation was complete.
I was a total wolf-creature now.

Furry Force (Various Transformations)

The popular College Humor site has branched into animation--its latest effort is Furry Force, a sort of Captain Planet/Superfriends parody where the heroes are teens...who transform into ludicrously endowed furries. The transformation content is slight (there's some muscle growth at the 16 second mark in part two), but the videos are hilarious (the writers clearly did their research!). I'm not a furry, but I think most folks in that community will find these videos more funny than offensive.

Unexpected Hiatus

My plan of updating more often was jinxed by Windows, which started crashing a month ago. While I can still browse the internet, editing video clips and images has become a hassle. I will probably have to re-install Windows and reformat my hard drive. Luckily, I've already back up my files, and with luck should have the computer fixed later this week.
In the meantime, take a look at Shadowlord and Dutchbull's sites, both of which have been recently updated (Dutchbull actually updated twice, on April 8 and May 1).

"A Donkey Tail" by Mamabliss (Donkey Transformation)

(As promised, I am switching gears--instead of waiting a long time to make a massive update, I will be making smaller updates more often.)

Mamabliss is one of this site's frequent artists, thanks to her prolific output and sensuous, funky style. She recently presented her blog readers with another lengthy, not-safe-for-work transformation comic--"A Donkey Tail." It's the story of two young asses who fulfill their true natures...
And if that wasn't great enough, Mamabliss is working on "A Donkey Tail: Part Two"!

Fashion King (Werewolf Transformation)

Fashion King (패션왕) is a Korean webcomic. Though set in the fashion world, it apparently has a wacky sense of humor--in one story the fashion-model hero turns into a werewolf. The transformation occurs across two chapters. It starts here--you have scroll way down to get to it. Fortunately for us, the transformation is revisited at the start of the next chapter, seen here. The artist makes sure to use all the classic, tried-and-true transformation tropes in his parody, bless 'im. Apparently Fashion King is going to be made into a live-action movie--I hope they include the werewolf parts!

Vampires (Werewolf, werecat, bear, bat, eagle, and gorilla transformations)

Don't be fooled by the title--this classic manga is really about animal shapeshifters.
Osamu Tezuka (1928-89) is sometimes known as the Walt Disney of Japan, though it terms of sheer creativity he is easily Disney's superior. Vampires (1966-67) is one of his lesser-known works and stars a young werewolf named Toppei. Western mythology was still relatively new to Japan, so Tezuka called his werewolves--and anyone else who could turn into an animal--vampires. And in the West vampires and werewolves were not always regarded as separate creatures either.

Anyway, this manga is a motherlode of transformations, so let's begin with Volume 01.
Remember to read from right to left! Here Toppei reverts from werewolf to human:

Now we arrive at Volume 03 and get another werewolf TF from Toppei, who transforms while falling from a building. The panels and their arrangement demonstrate why Tezuka is a master:

I lied--that's not all! Vampires was adapted into a live-action TV series in 1968. So, you ask, how did they pull off the werewolf transformations? Through a mixture of live action and animation! This has rarely been done for transformations, and you can see why in the following clip--the process is interesting, but the end result doesn't really work in live action. Disappointingly, the show reused this scene for all of Toppei's transformations, with only minor adjustments. So while Vampires the manga is a smorgasbord of transformations, Vampires the show is a bust.

Army of Darkness (Werewolf Transformations)

This comic was inspired by the cult film of the same title, starring antihero Ash Williams. In Volume 1, issue 10, Ash gets scratched by a werewolf and starts itching...

Luckily a cure is devised...

In volume 3, issue 20, Ash runs into another werewolf. This one reverts to human form, much to Ash's discomfort:

Twin Dolls: Legend of the Heavenly Beasts 2 (Monster Transformation)

Here's a quick monster transformation from a silly-looking old anime. Oh, and I didn't notice until now, but this monster has a rather large you-know-what. He also has dreadlocks and a unicorn horn, but I'm not sure why...

Outre Tombe (Werewolf Transformation)

Outre Tombe is a French comic. As you might guess from the title of the second volume (Loup y es-tu?), werewolves show up. Take a look at the guy staring at the moon in the top panels and watch him change...

Demonic Sex (Demon, Dog, Werewolf, and Pig Transformations)

Before we go any further, a warning--these links are NOT safe for work!

Demonic Sex is a remarkable adult comic that ran for only nine issues. Billed as a series of "Satanic Tales of Transformation and Possession," it was a fetishist's dream, a literal orgy of transformations. The links below take you to complete issues, but you can easily pick out the most exciting pages.

It all starts with a nice all-American boy accidentally hooking up with the devil and being corrupted and sent to hell, where he starts feeling a bit devilish...there's a second demon TF in the next issue, but it's minor.

In issue three we get back on track and witness a man being transformed into a demonic urine receptacle, followed by an S&M "dog" turning into a real hound.
Skipping forward a few issues, the fun resumes in issue 07 with another demon transformation, a werewolf metamorphosis, and two policemen who are genuine pigs.

Issue 08 features a dude turning into a horsey demon (followed by some extreme docking), while the literally shitty final issue goes out with a gangbang of four pig transformations! Alas, the comic seems to end there, with the protagonists stuck head-first up another pig's asshole. Don't you hate it when that happens?

Twink Wolf (Werewolf Transformations)

Twink Wolf is, of course, an X-rated parody of Teen Wolf. The artist does a good job of capturing the look of  the show it parodies--when the werewolves in Teen Wolf transform they don't look very wolfy (they're more like vampires with sideburns)...

And now a rant about Teen Wolf: Back in its first season, the show's alpha werewolf looked like an honest-to-God werewolf, but after that we've only seen the boring, vampire-like beta design. Producer Jeff Davis says this is because of cost and because the actors are more recognizable with the more limited make-up. But a fully-transformed werewolf is a monster that shouldn't look human in the first place.
That's my main beef with Teen Wolf--it no longer seems interested in werewolves, not as beasts or monsters anyway. Instead, lycanthropy is just a superpower and often overshadowed by the lizardmen, kitsunes, druids and freaks. Even so, Teen Wolf is still the best supernaturally-themed show on television, and the writing is better than ever. I just wish that a show about werewolves would accentuate wolf as much as  were.

Finals (Monster Transformation)

Finals was a Vertigo comic miniseries from 1999. It's a satire of college life, including the obsessive focus on sports. The first issue opens with a jock bragging that monkey gland injections will make his team into super-strong athletes. He doesn't know how correct he is...

How come sports were never like thus at my college? I'd have watched every game...

The Transformation Art of Crinitus (Werewolf and Gorilla Transformations)

I normally wait until an artist has a full gallery before I feature him on this blog, but I'll make an exception for Crinitus, who has created three of the finest morphs I've seen from an amateur transformation artist. His characters are finely detailed yet morph with exquisite fluidity.
The three morphs are:
* a werewolf
* a reverting werewolf
* a gorilla (and I have to agree with Crinitus--there just aren't enough ape transformations out there!)
* a wereraven

Salomão Ventura – O Caçador de Lendas (Werewolf Transformation)

Apparently a werewolf appears in issue three of this Brazilian indie comic. I wasn't able to acquire the actual comic (it's offered through the artist's facebook page), but the online preview includes a page with a well-drawn transformation, seen below:

Trivia: in Brazil and Portugal, the word for werewolf is lobisomem.
