This cute short features a bullied tyke showing his tormentors why they won't like him when he's angry. Since the actor playing the Hulk is at the very least a teenager, the transformation also counts as age progression...

I am delighted to have so many readers from around the world! I'm especially surprised at how many readers are from non-English speaking countries. Now, I happen to know that lots of cartoons and other shows that air in Europe and Asia never make it to American TV. Plus, lots of European and Asian comics remain unknown in the U.S.
So please dear readers, if you see a good Transformation scene in a non-American cartoon, movie, TV show or comic, tell me about it! I might otherwise never know. Our friends aboard receive more than enough American exports, but Americans rarely receive enough of theirs.
 I know that our friends in Germany and France, for example, watch many cartoons Americans know nothing about. And in Japan there must be thousands of unknown manga and anime with TF scenes. Even nations close to the US, like Canada and Mexico, have their secrets, along with English-speaking nations like the UK and Australia. And let's not leave out our friends in Spain and Italy! No matter where you are, I'm interested in hearing from you!

Lastly, I'm going on vacation in early August and won't return until September. Before then I hope to make at least two major posts, on an Argentinian soap opera and a classic anime series.

Corrector Yui (Werewolf Transformation)

Corrector Yui is the sort of anime that doesn't make sense to anyone but 11 year olds with too much time on their hands (plus, the only videos I could find were Spanish dubs). It takes place in some kind of cyberspace realm and one of the online characters, Synchro, seems to have been infected with some kind of computer virus that turns him into a werewolf.

His initial transformation, from episode 21, is here:



Later on, in episode 40, he has a reversion scene, which I think is better (and more sensuous) than the original TF:

The Art of Silverclaw

I would be remiss if I didn't devote a post to one of my absolute favorite transformation artists: Silverclaw, whose artwork can be found on Fur Affinity under the name "Silverclaw1". The site requires registration, but it's more than worth it to have access to Silverclaw's spirited drawings. Her work is truly full of life. Take for instance her much-renown ability with facial expressions--her characters survey their changing limbs with genuine shock, consternation, and curiosity, and she can draw a thousand variations on these mixed emotions. And when her characters' changing bodies writhe and thrash around, her kinetic command of anatomy is enhanced by her cartoony style, which in turn accentuates the drama and humor of transformation. And luckily for this blog Silverclaw likes drawing "pretty boys"as the subject of transformations.

Her account is full of TF goodness, and I'd like to highlight a few of my personal favorites. Entries that are not safe for work have been marked and require registration.

Let's start with some early work, such as the Otter transformation in "Deep Water."

Here's an early sequence involving wolves in "A Day At the Mall": 01, 02, 03.

"Donkey Cabbage" (NSFW) shows another of her strengths, Donkey TFs: 01, 02, 03.

Kangaroos of course are the subject of "Walkabout."

Donkeys make a braying (and NSFW) return in "Pleasure Island Bar": 01, 02, 03.

Silverclaw's biggest, greatest sequence yet also involves donkeys. Behold the epic length, lovingly detailed "First Change" (NSFW):

Horrid Henry (Ape Transformation)

In this episode ("Horrid Henry's Hideo-Video"), bratty Henry imagines himself transforming into a King-Kong-like ape monster. EDIT: The link is dead, but all the transformations from this series can be viewed at Shadowlord Inc. 

Horrid Henry (Dinosaur Transformation)

Horrid Henry is a British cartoon about a bad boy prone to temper tantrums. During some of these he turns into nasty looking animals, though the transformation is entirely imagined. In the show's credits, he's briefly seen transforming into a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The Amazing World of Gumball (Age Progression/Growth Transformation)

The Amazing World of Gumball is a neat little cartoon that adeptly mixes different animation styles. In an episode titled "The Mustache," Gumball goes through a very fast and rather hulking form of puberty. Cued for your convenience.

Wakfu (Dragon Transformation)

Wakfu is a quasi-anime series produced in France. In the 24th episode of its second season there's a nice dragon transformation, one also notable for well-animated muscle growth. The latter explains why it's featured by Youtuber Gelty Drake, whose account has many other growth scenes from various cartoons. The video below is his, and I thank him in advance for his good work.

Legend of the Werehorse! (Horse Transformation)

You might caught my earlier post about Mambliss, one of the great online TF artists, who has prolifically and proficiently gone about her craft while so many other TF artists have burnt out. She (or is it he?) has a unique style and specializes in adult-themed content, and her latest opus is no different. Perhaps I should say magnum opus, since "Legend of the Werehorse" is an epic-sized comic of over 50 pages, detailing the full-moon transformation of two young men into equines. (I should warn you that the comic is not work safe, and is not for people who get squeamish at the sight of two dudes rockin' the casbah.) Mamabliss has made "Legend of the Werehorse!" available for download here. You can also read "Legend of the Werehorse" here. 

The Lycanthrope (Werewolf Transformation)

One of the great explorers of werewolf lore is someone known only as "Dig," who posts semi-regularly at the Werewolf Cafe with fantastic news of werewolf-related movies and TV shows no one else has heard of. His latest scoop involves a short amateur film, and as Dig says, it's "amazing what you can do with a very small budget." The Lycanthrope was made way back in 1990, but its homemade prosthetics put most modern Hollywood FX to shame.

Adventure Time (Werewolf Transformation)

Adventure Time is an extremely idiosyncratic and deservedly popular surreal fantasy cartoon. The most recent episode, "Hug Wolf," features the most hilarious twist on werewolf lore I've ever seen. Main character Finn transforms into a ferocious, bestial monster who goes around...hugging people. Driven by an insatiable, savage lust for giving affectionate embraces, he embarks on a loving rampage! To see the TF, scroll to the 06:15 mark.

Moonspell: "Licanthrope" (Werewolf Transformation)

According to wikipedia, Moonspell is a Portuguese heavy metal band (I didn't know there were any!). In their music video for "Licanthrope" (sic), the lead singer is shown turning into a werewolf (why doesn't that happen more often in music videos?). The transformation is a combination of prothestics (the foot turning into a paw) and cgi (the back ridging). Unfortunately, the design and make-up of the fully-transformed werewolf is a disappointment.

Bad Moon Rising (Werewolf Transformation)

Bad Moon Rising is a short film from Australia now making the rounds of film festivals.
The premise: "During a bruising interrogation, a young man waits till moon rise to turn the tables on his captors." A one minute excerpt is online, and I have to say that for a short independent film the special effects are very good. The director has plans to expand his short into a feature film. We wish him the best of luck.

News Update: 100 Posts, Massive TF list, and a Request to Readers

Huzzah! Male Transformations has passed the 100 post mark! To be honest, it should have passed that years ago, but I feel that only in the past year have I really hit my stride. To celebrate, two very large posts are planned for next month, one involving an Argentinian soap opera and the other four versions of a classic anime series.

In the meantime, I've come across the motherlode of Transformation alerts--a Japanese TF site has put up a massive list of anime episodes that feature transformation scenes. Even better, most of the entries have video links! See it all here. The only problem is that it's all in Japanese and there's a huge amount of material to plow through. I've started work with google translate and I'm a tenth of the way through.

So, I have a request for any readers who happen to know Japanese. If you have free time, please take a look at the list, and if you see anything good, let me know! By "good" I mean any transformation involving male characters that are not of the "poof!" or instant variety. And just to warn you, it looks like most of the TFs on that page are instant. Additionally, I'd prefer not to post any TF videos that can be found on Dutch Bull or Stonegate's sites. So, now that that's out of the way, have fun!

News Update: Update at Dutchbull's!

Drop what you're doing and head on over to Dutchbull's site, because he's updated! Make sure to check out his videos from the latest seasons of the British and American Being Human. The latter is still inferior to the original, though it did have one good idea: introducing purebreed werewolves (i.e., who have been born that way). And unlike that mopey bore Josh, the purebreds are quite happy being amoral superbeasts. One was played by an actor who looked like a depraved Adonis and gave an ample demonstration why evil is sexier than good. Instead of keeping him around, the show got rid of him of course. Let's hope the new season of Teen Wolf does better on the televised lycanthropy front. In the meantime, mark your calendars for Dutchbull's next update in July.

Fantaghiro: The Cave of the Golden Rose (Monster Transformation)

From what I can tell, Fantaghiro: The Cave of the Golden Rose is a fantasy miniseries. Its antihero is in love with the heroine but has nasty problem--every time he tries to kiss her he turns into a monster. (He looks something like a cross between an ogre and the wolfman.) The TF is mostly facial but relatively detailed.

Reader Contributions VI: Justice League (Gorilla Transformation and extras)

Makaio has also written in to recommend posting this scene from the Justice League episode "The Brave and the Bold", wherein the Flash suffers hallucinations at the hands of the fiendish Gorilla Grodd.
Makaio writes:  "One of my favorite TF clips. In this video is a weight gain (pretty sweet), head inflation, puppet TF, and finally my favorite, the gorilla transformation. I love how he goes from this skinny guy, suddenly hulks bigger, and finally his six-pack pushes out into huge round gorilla gut."
I have to agree, and will add that transformation scenes are often more detailed and vivid when played for nightmare/horror value, whereas comedic TFs are often of the "poof" variety, unless they're deriving comedy from the character's discomfort and humiliation during the transformation process. And those aspects can be played for horror with very little adjustment...




Makaio, whose blog I've added to the links sidebar, makes TF videos of his own. He points to two homemade TFs made with a gorilla suit (which can be viewed here and here). Makaio writes "I tried to mimic the camera techniques with the incredible hulk TFs with close-ups of the rippage and such. The goal was to make it look like I was actually outgrowing my clothes becoming a gorilla without using my hands to pull off on the clothes. Unlike the hulk, this gorilla tf managed to get in some nice pants and boxer rippage..."

Reader Contributions V: The Incredible Hulk (Monster/Growth Transformation)

Makaio has written in to recommend posting the very first Hulk transformation from the Incredible Hulk series that ran back in the 70s. As Makaio vividly describes it, this "is by far the most elaborate hulk transformation as is usually the case for any 'first' TFs...what's nice about this hulk-out is it shows a fair amount of rippage, brow growth, DNA mutation, and a slower progression of David's face to the Hulk's...The [clothes] rippage is hot, but what I like the most about this sequence is the sound... [it's] the best element to this transformation, because it reveals more than what is seen. If you closed your eyes and listened to the audio, you'll hear that the clothes ripping sound is very continuous, even after most of the shirt has been prominently ripped up. This hints that rippage is occurring to the pants as well..."



 Makaio recommends the transformation  from the episode "747" as the show's second best TF scene. He writes: "From the point the TF is triggered with David's white eyes (1:26) to full-Hulk Lou Ferrigno (3:01) the transformation takes one minute and thirty-six seconds... I'm sure this was due to David Banner's futile efforts to control the transformation from happening so he could pilot the plane. Needless to say, the effort only served to allow the Hulk more time to flex his arms out of his sleeves, and feel the buttons pop off his chest. The Hulk always wins this battle in the end." Batman: The Brave and the Bold (Age Progression/Monster Transformation)

The always fun Batman: The Brave and the Bold features an episode called "Death Race to Oblivion!" The teaser has an appearance by the villain Blockbuster, aka Marl Desmond, an evil child genius who concocts a serum that makes him grow up very quickly...

Bloomin' Faeries (Age Progression Transformation)

One strip of the NSFW webcomic Bloomin' Faeries features a bratty prince age progressing into a stud. Short but sweet, and viewable here.

Hyrcania (Werewolf Transformation)

Here's a neat little surprise from France: a short indie film called Hyrcania, about a soldier who returns from the eponymous mythical country with a surprise in store for his wife.



The special effects are surprisingly good for what must be an independent film on a shoestring budget (there's even snout growth!). Having griped about The Vampire Diaries in my previous post, I'm impressed to see a director do a good TF job on a much smaller budget. Hollywood could take some pointers...

Reader Contributions II: Vampire Diaries (Werewolf Transformation)

One of the great joys in running a blog is when readers show their appreciation by participating. This week I'm honored to feature the contribution of Mike, who wrote in to alert us of recent werewolf transformations in The Vampire Diaries. Some readers will remember that I covered a werewolf TF from the show about a year ago  (here). The newest TF features the same character, Tyler (played by Michael Trevino), though he's now a vampire-werewolf hybrid to boot.

 You can watch the new clip here. The TF starts around the 1:28 mark. As in the earlier VD clip, Trevino's acting is terrific--his screams and contortions deftly convey the pain he's feeling as his body changes. But like the earlier clip, the sparse special effects aren't up to his acting, and after several minutes of screaming and bone-snapping sounds, we just get a couple seconds of hard-to-see morphing. It's sort of like two hours of foreplay followed by a minute of sex. Still, Trevino's acting should aid anyone with a healthy imagination, and we can hope the show will offer future TFs that show more. In any case, a hearty thank you goes out to Mike, for being both an enthusiastic reader and contributor. I hope more readers will follow in his example. Thanks again!

A.T.O.M (Monster/Hulk Transformation)

A.T.O.M. is the title of cartoon and stands for Alpha Teens On Machines. (One hopes the show isn't as stupid as its title.) Anyway, in episode 6, "The Experiment," one of the Alpha Teens, a big buff guy named King, gets captured by a mad scientist and turned into a hulk-like monster. The transformation is rather brief but occurs in two stages.

Mamabliss' "Equine Solution" (Horse Transformation)

Happy New Year everyone! Let's start the year off on the right (transformed) foot with some TF. Here's a horse transformation comic by Mamabliss, who graciously made it a freebie.

Archipelago (Wereshark Transformation 2)

The wild and weird webcomic Archipelago features a pair of twin brothers--one is a fully-fledged wereshark, while the other is sharky but not able to fully transform. Last August I reported on the wereshark brother's transformation. Now the other brother has transformed, but his form is a lot less...pretty. The TF starts here.
